Matthew Nugent Schuler, 63, Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017. Matthew was born January 27, 1954 to Martin Nugent and Patricia Morrison Schuler. He was a proud graduate of St. Ann Catholic School, Rockhurst High School and the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.
His professional career included dedicated service as a pharmacist for Albers Pharmacy, Wooten Drugs and Bruce Smith Drugs. He then worked as a clinical trial protocol pharmacologist for Quintiles and INC Research, Raleigh, NC.
Matthew’s passion for baseball began when he was a child and lasted throughout his lifetime – from playing on a number of baseball teams in grade school and as an adult in a fast-pitch softball league to being a loyal KC Royals fan attending Spring Training in Florida and Arizona for many years.
But nothing surpassed his love of the family cabin and property on the shores of Lake Minnewaska in Glenwood, MN. His most treasured memories were of the times he spent there with family and friends, beginning when he was an infant and ending with his last visit this past summer.
Services will be Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. Visitation will be from 9:30am – 10:30am and a funeral mass will begin immediately following.
He is preceded in death by both his parents and his older brother, Mark Campbell Schuler. Survivors include his brother, Martin Luke Schuler; his sister, Margaret Mary Schuler and nephews, John Koeneke Schuler and Joseph Martin Schuler.
Memorial contributions can be made to Rockhurst High School, ATTN: Alumni Office, 9301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 or the Pope County Historical Society, 809 South Lakeshore Drive, Glenwood, MN 56334.
