

Mildred Irene Peters, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. She was 105 years old. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00-11:00 am at McGilley and Hoge Funeral Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. The Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am also at McGilley and Hoge Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 West 75th Street, Shawnee, Kansas 66227.
Mildred was born on December 21, 1920, in St. Joseph Missouri to Frank and Bertha Pearl Sigears. She was the youngest of four children. As a young girl, Mildred worked at the Chase Candy Co. and then waitressed at the “Ruby Do” Hotel. Once her career shifted to working at doctor’s offices, she decided to become a nurse’s aide. She worked at Bethany Hospital for 18 years before retiring in 1988. In 1985, Mildred earned the Employee of the Year award at Bethany Hospital.
Mildred was married to her beloved husband, William Peters, for 37 amazing years. Although they did not have children of their own, Mildred was a lifetime dog lover. And later in life, she also found her love for cats. Mildred had many wonderful friends throughout her lifetime, and she was especially close with her longtime friends, Donita and Brian Messner. Mildred also enjoyed dancing to Big Band music and doing the “Frog Hop.”
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, William Peters; parents, Frank and Bertha Sigears; and brothers, Bert, Ralph, and Elmer.
Mildred is survived by her family, Mike (Phyliss) Sigears, Mark (Christine) Young, Jason and Jarred Young, Bruce (Alvina) Young, Amy (Joe) Sauceda, Alyssa and Joseph Sauceda, and Sarah (Nate) Parker, along with many other dear family members and friends.
