Nick Kastanias

Nick Kastanias, age 98, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Nick Kastanias went to join his wife in heaven early in the morning on August 14. Nick was born July 2, 1926 in Newark NJ. He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, son-in-law Bruce and his wife Ruth. He was adored by his children - Barbara, JoAnn (Dan), George (Gwen), Keith, and Jessica - numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Nick served in the Navy during WW II and went to the prestigious Pace College (now Pace University) in lower Manhattan on the GI bill. He graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration of which he was very proud. He worked as a comptroller until his 70’s and was a consultant for a number of companies well into his 80s.

He met his wife, Ruth, on New Years Day,1950, and began a love affair that never ended. Five children later they were still dancing in the kitchen.

Nick will be remembered for his big booming voice, scotch at 4 pm, his amazing memory, Wednesday night dinners (which he cooked) and love of family. He often shared his wisdom over food and wine. He was the kind of man no one will forget and everyone will miss.

A memorial mass for Nick will be held at 4:30 PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. Rosary will be at 4:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Resurrection Catholic Cemtery, 8321 Quivira Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66215.
