Patricia Louise (Dodge) Schneider died peacefully in the family home of over sixty years on March 4, 2020 at the age of 95. Her companion, best friend and primary caregiver for the last ten years, daughter Pam, was by her side.
Patty was born January 25, 1925 in Fort Madison, Iowa where she was raised by parents Dorothy Elizabeth (Schaile) and Frank Perry Dodge. She was a devoted older sister to Frank Perry Dodge, Jr. who predeceased her. Patty attended the University of Iowa and Kansas University. She married Norman P. Schneider on June 1, 1947 and they were together for 53 years until his death in 2000. They began married life in Champaign, where Patty worked while Norm finished his studies at the University of Illinois, after which his career landed them back in Ft. Madison. A transfer took them to Fresno, California and then back to the midwest, to Kansas City, closer to home. Deciding to stay permanently, they purchased a new home in Mission, Kansas. Patty was a devoted wife and mother. She juggled Norm's travels and all the activities of raising four children. She kept an impeccable household and had a talent for decorating. Patty was sweet and kind, caring and sympathetic. She was stylish. Her faith was very important to her, including church, volunteering and bible study. She was an avid reader. Tomahawk Hills Country Club filled many years of family and friend time with golf, swimming, picnics and more. Some other favorite things included travel, the Midland Theatre, gardening, PBS, coffee, crosswords, and games. She and Norm enjoyed years of bridge club gatherings. The backyard swimming pool was her realm. Many wonderful memories were made poolside with family and friends. Their house became the gathering place for BBQs, birthdays, and holidays. Sunday dinners were a long standing tradition. Family was everything to her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Rebecca (Richard) Waterman, Brian Schneider, Janet (Tom) Noonen, and Pamela Schneider, as well as grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Michael, Daniel, Geoffrey, Grady, Andrew, Amy, and Will, along with six great grandsons and a great granddaughter.
A special thanks to the dedicated and devoted caregivers that mom had. Contributions may be made to Village Presbyterian Church in her name.
