Phill held various sales jobs selling hardware mostly and worked at his parents' hardware store, Smitty's Hardware in downtown Overland Park, where he applied his mechanical knowledge and artistic value to fix things. Phill became a "jack of all trades", he knew a lot about a lot of things and really enjoyed the challenge of learning something new.
He was a member of Johnson County Christian Church Disciples of Christ where he was an Elder and a very active participant.
Phill loved to entertain and have a good time, always ready with a joke or a story to tell. Gregarious by nature, Phill did not know a stranger. A natural born salesman, friends used to tell him that he could sell dog poop off of a sidewalk! Phill was very adventuresome and wanted to take all of the back roads, when he wasn't in a hurry. Phill was very inquisitive about new facets of life. His passion was airplanes and flying. He was an excellent teacher, and taught most of his children how to swim and waterski; he loved boating and being around the water. Phill will be missed by his loved ones and all the lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
