Ramsey was born on February 12, 1938, to Barney G. Davis and Crotia (Ramsey) Davis. He grew up in Bonner Springs, Kansas and graduated from Bonner Springs High School. He received his B.S. in History and Government from the University of Kansas City (UMKC). While at the university, he served as president of his fraternity Delta Chi. He was a long-time supporter of Linda Hall Library and was a member of the Linda Hall Library Presidents Circle. After college, he served in the US Army Reserves.
In May of 1962, he joined the family business, H.C. Davis Sons Manufacturing Company, retiring as President in 2003.
In 1962, he married Sara L. Cox who preceded him in death in 1970. They had 2 daughters together, Debra and Diane. On August 4, 1973, he married Kay L. Barclay, and she preceded him in death in 2018.
Ramsey loved to travel and traveled all over the world. He spent several weeks in New Orleans each winter. Wengen, Switzerland was a particular favorite destination where he spent many summers.
He was a lifelong Disciple of Christ and was a member of Country Club Christian Church for many years, where he served as a member of Healing and Wholeness, Prayer Group, and the Funeral Gild.
Ramsey is survived by his two daughters, Debra McPherson (Tom) and Diane Smith (Brent) and four grandsons, Zachary McPherson (Kalee), Joshua McPherson, Kyle McPherson, and Ryan Smith and one great-grandson, Miller McPherson arriving in April of this year.
There will be a private family graveside service with interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Kansas City Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for the benefit of Country Club Christian Church, Linda Hall Library or the Salvation Army.
