He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Walsh, and brothers Anthony, Thomas, and twin John Walsh. He was the son of Charles and Mary Katherine McGinty Walsh. He will be greatly missed for his gentle strength and quiet nature by his children Robert (Casey) Walsh, Charlene Higginbotham, Jan Triebel, Geri (Jack) Baker, and James (Penny) Walsh. He leaves behind his sister Mary Loretta Johnson, of Shawnee, Kansas, grandchildren Charlie, Sean, Stevie, Mike, Anna, Jon, Angela and Erin as well as four great-grandchildren, Amy, Riley, Luke and Landon.
Robert was a World War II Army Veteran, earning the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for distinguished service. He was a member of Pipefitters Local 533 for over 70 years where he made many lifelong friends and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Prairie Village. He enjoyed his family, friends, sports, hunting, and fishing.
Robert was famous for his Irish blessings and humor lovingly shared with all at every opportunity.
A Rosary will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at 7:00pm with visitation until 9pm at McGilley-Hoge Chapel at 8024 Santa Fe Drive in Overland Park, Kansas. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Church, South Keith Road, Scammon, Kansas, on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 1pm followed by interment at St. Bridget Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Bridget Cemetery Perpetual Fund, P O Box7, Scammon, Kansas, 66773. The family would like to thank St. Joseph Medical Center, Sharon Lane Health Services and Crossroads Hospice for the exceptional care and love provided.
