

Rose Cecilia Kennedy Mayer passed peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House on April 4, 2015 after a 7-month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and supported by the prayers of many.
Rose was born to Joseph and Anna Kennedy on November 26, 1935 in Plattsburg, MO and raised on a farm in Cameron, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Catherine and Rita, and brothers Jim, Art and Mike. She married Carl “Gene” Mayer in 1959 and was blessed with a daughter “Kimberley” in 1960 and a son “Carl” in 1966. She enjoyed raising her family in Fairway, KS and worked with Trans World Airlines for nearly 40 years. After retirement, she volunteered at St. Agnes Church, Queen of the Holy Rosary Church and the Johnson County Election Commission. Rose and Gene moved to Stratford Commons in Overland Park in 2002 where Rose was a member of the Board and responsible for the Grounds. Rose follows her husband Gene, who made his trip to Heaven nine years earlier on April 4, 2006. Rose enjoyed Dancing with her husband Gene, reminiscing about her parents, siblings and her childhood, spending time with her grandchildren: Jacob, Hannah, Savana, Trinity, Miranda and Faith, bargain hunting and taking advantage of the casinos.
Visitation will be held at 5-8pm, Wednesday, April 8 at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, with the Rosary to begin at 5pm. Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Church in Roeland Park, KS at 10am April 9, 2015 followed by a burial at St. Johns Cemetery at 8900 Pflumm, Lenexa, KS. Donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
