

Streeter was born to Streeter L. and Margaret Catherine (Wilkie) Funk on June 20th, 1935 in Wichita, KS. He graduated from East High in 1954 and also attended Fall River High School in Fall River, KS and was on the Fall River basketball team that lost in the State Championship game.
Streeter graduated from Wichita State University, then the University of Wichita in 1961. He was a proud member of the Phi Lambda Psi (Men of Webster) Fraternity, which later became the Wichita Chapter of Delta Upsilon International Social Fraternity.
Streeter worked at KMUW, the University radio station that launched his career in broadcasting. He worked at KANS radio in Wichita doing the late night “Neat Street” Show. He went to work for KARD-TV in Wichita, which later became the KSN. He was there broadcast engineer and remained there until his move to Overland Park, KS in 1976, where he became the engineer for KCTV-5 and worked for CBS Sports. He remained there for the rest of his career. He was a very active member of IBEW Local 53. He was always concerned about his colleagues working conditions and wages.
During his life, Streeter was a very active outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hiking (As a teenage he climbed Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park.) As a young man, he also ran trap lines. He was a member of the NRA for many years. He loved to camp, especially along the Peak to Peak Highway in Colorado. He and his friends spent many weekends and weeks riding their motorcycles in the hills of Kansas and the mountains of Colorado.
Streeter traveled abroad to Europe- especially Germany with friends, Hawaii, and he had a great trip with John Howard and Dennis Cain to Jamaica.
He never married but was the greatest uncle to his three closest nieces- Morgan, Callie and Chelsey Funk. He was also a good uncle to all his other nieces and nephews scattered about the country.
Streeter’s mother, father and half-brother precede him is death. He is survived by brother, Fred Funk and his wife, Cheryl, whom Streeter called a blessing to the Funk family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Streeter Wilkie Funk of Overland Park, Kansas passed away at The Health Resort of Shawnee Mission. His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31st at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel with visitation to begin at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 6811 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, Suite 202, Shawnee Mission, Kansas 66202.
