Born on Easter morning, April 1, 1934, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Meredith and Don Glass, Sue grew up in Heavener, Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma State University, where she met Melvin Johnson. The two were married on June 10, 1955, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, adventure, and home-building wherever life took them.
As Melvin’s work moved the family often, Sue poured her heart into creating a warm and loving home for their five daughters. She worked for a time as a substitute elementary teacher in Hawaii and later opened a daycare in their home for several years. For more than two decades she served faithfully as nursery coordinator at the church she and Melvin attended, gently caring for little ones and supporting young families with the same quiet strength she brought to her own.
Sue’s hands were rarely idle. She loved sewing, crafting, “glamping,” and shopping, finding joy in both creativity and time spent with those she cherished. A longtime member of Nall Avenue Baptist Church, she lived out her faith through service, hospitality, and an unwavering commitment to family.
Sue is survived by her two brothers, Louie Glass and Al Glass; her five daughters, Karen, Lori, Linda, Brenda, and Judy; sixteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, with a fifth on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Meredith Glass, and by her beloved husband, Melvin Johnson.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at McGilley and Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204.

Sue’s life was marked by love, resilience, and the quiet art of making every place feel like home. Her family will carry that legacy forward with gratitude.
