Valorie Beth (Schroeder) Macgregor, 83 of Overland Park, KS died Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 2022. Valorie was born in Oconto, WI July 15, 1938 to Edmond R. Schroeder and Roemilda Mercedes (Martens) Schroeder.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother and daughter, Erica (2018)
Valorie met and married George Macgregor and had three children: Rob Roy Ian, Sandra Beth, and Erica Lane. They were married for 37 years.
Valorie began her career later in life; attending the University of Kansas and earning her MSW in Social Work. She also studied Psychotherapy at the Crittenton Institute in Topeka, KS. Valorie opened and ran a private therapy practice for many years. She enjoyed being a constant student; reading, studying and participating in small group discussions. She was active in the Psychoanalytic Society, teaching Enneagram workshops and recently a Mythology group. Valorie loved all things Freud, Shakespeare and Nietzsche.
Valorie leaves behind a loving family that will miss her dearly. Three bright and beautiful grandchildren: Riley, Mitchell, Matthew and son-in-laws, Brett and Chris. I know that she loves each of you in a unique way and was sorry to leave so soon.
Rob writes: My mother was my turning point toward a career; I wasted time in college and was running out of money. She said, "Well you always liked airplanes." I became a licensed mechanic because of her forethought and have enjoyed the rewards of 40 years of aviation. Thank you Mom.
Sandy writes: My mom has been such an inspiration in my life. Sometimes annoyingly so. She encouraged me to seek Psychiatric advice for my anxiety and after 50 years, I finally sought treatment. Total life changer. It's just like any other healthcare issue that requires a doctor and the correct medicine. Now I feel free and strong enough to use my voice, listen to others perspectives and to be adventurous. I feel as though my mother was trapped inside the body of a wife\mother and she emerged as a beautiful explorer. Please don't let society, family or any entity define your life. Thanks Mama. I'm lovin' you.
Sheryl writes: Valorie was a vivacious seeker of knowledge and often pried open the deepest wisdom. Her favorite philosopher was Nietzsche and she cherished his vigor of dissecting meaning from existence. Nietzsche stated one should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly. She was a Proud woman of life and philosophy also embrace death as the next great adventure.
Friedrich Nietzsche writes: “This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more; and there will be nothing new in it, but every pain and every joy and every thought and sigh and everything unutterably small or great in your life will have to return to you, all in the same succession and sequence - even this spider and this moonlight between the trees, and even this moment and I myself. The eternal hourglass of existence is turned upside down again and again, and you with it, speck of dust!”
