William Alves Anderton Jr.

William Alves Anderton Jr., passed away on December 14, 2020 at home. He was born on August 17, 1921 in Fossil, Oregon. Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 6422 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66202. Memorials may be sent to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

Shortly after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Radioman First Class until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was called back into service at the Naval Station in Bremerton, Washington in 1950, where he served until the end of the Korean Conflict.

Under the GI bill, he attended business college in Portland, Oregon. Upon his graduation, he obtained employment at Lumberman’s Underwriting Alliance, where he worked until 1970. He then joined the Atlas Mutual Insurance Company as Corporate Secretary until his retirement.

For over 60 years, he was member of the Masons, serving as Master of Friendship Lodge in 1965 in Portland, Oregon. He joined the Shriners in Kansas City and was a member of the Chanters and the Nomads.

He was a longtime member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Overland Park, Kansas.

He enjoyed traveling, golf, playing bridge and watching sports, especially KU basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Alves Anderton Sr. and Katherine Belle Anderton; and his sisters, Carolyn Romjue and Maxine Chamberlain.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn; three children, Ruth Karlsson, Carl Anderton (Jerilynn) and Joyce O’Connell (Michael); and his five granddaughters, Katrina Anderton, Erin O’Connell, Amelia Anderton, Meghan O’Connell, and Grace O’Connell.
