Bertie grew up in Newton, N.C. After high school, she married her first love, Paul Vogt. They moved to Florida in 1960. Bertie's main loves in life were the Lord and her family. Paul and Bertie were married for 50 years. She was only 19 when they were married. They had two incredible sons who followed in her footsteps and dedicated their lives to the Lord. Stephen and Michael were her top priority.
Several years after Paul passed away, she found love once more and married Roy Carthen. Roy always said "gotta make Momma happy!" He loved her unconditionally. Bertie was blessed to have two wonderful husbands who had the same passion in Christ.
Bertie loved her 6 grandsons and her 13 great grandchildren. She learned in the hospital before her passing, that her youngest grandson and his wife were expecting their first child. She was so happy.
Bertie was the family's prayer warrior. She prayed the 91st Psalm over all of her family members by name every day. She had several bibles in her home, and they were all very worn because of how much time she spent in them.
She was loved beyond measure and will be missed by all who knew her. Until we meet again in heaven.
Bertie was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Waters, her mother, Lillie Watters, her first husband, Paul Vogt, her second husband, Roy Carthen, and her oldest son, Dr. Stephen Vogt.
