Betty was born April 7, 1936 in Barbourville, Kentucky, the oldest daughter to Bertha and Arthur Hammons. She is survived by her sister, Mary Hammons Crozier of Batavia, Ohio. Betty was the much loved Mother of James Alfred Stanley, Jr (Al) and his wife, Teresa; Kristen Lynch and husband Jim; Kara Leigh Hrkach and husband Phil.
She was the cherished Grandmother of grandsons Ray Lynch, Shelby Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Cameron Hrkach, as well as granddaughters Natalie Foster and Heather Haas; Great Grandmother of Tristin Foster, Jake and Harper Hass. She was beloved and touched the lives of countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and multiple friends of whom she loved deeply.
Betty graduated from Knox Central High School in Barbourville, Kentucky and continued her education at Eastern Kentucky University, where she met her husband, Jim Stanley. She graduated in three years with a BA in Early Childhood Education. Betty and Jim married on June 1, 1957 and quickly started their family in the following years. After pursuing several opportunities across the country, they settled on Central Florida as their home in 1971.
Betty earned her MA in Education Administration from Rollins College in Winter Park allowing her to expand her professional experience in Seminole County in what would eventually result in several administrative appointments. As a teacher, her patient, nurturing demeanor was invaluable to her students. This same passion for education was further expanded with her principalships, where she flourished as a mentor to teachers and staff, creating a work environment that was inspirational. Betty retired in 1999 after 28 years of service in the Seminole County School District. Her retirement party was particularly touching, filled with humor, love, and appreciation for her dedication to her chosen profession.
The next chapter of Betty's life was filled with travel, art, tea parties, and music. She was an active member of her book club, and season ticket holder for the Orlando Philharmonic and Broadway Series. Her passion for the arts fueled her soul and her life. Her curiosity of all subjects was infectious and inspiring. She began painting and there are a number of pieces of her work that family members enjoy, as does her country home church of Barbourville, Kentucky.
Betty Stanley was well loved by family and friends in every aspect of her life. She will be greatly missed while standing as a beautiful example of a life well lived. A Celebration of Life will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Oviedo on April 15 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in her honor...the thing that fuels your soul.
