Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Doug graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1972. After vacationing in Florida with his parents, he was inspired to make the state his home and set out on his Harley-Davidson to begin a new chapter in his life. In 2005, he married his beloved wife, Jeana.
Doug began his career with Orange County Government’s Utilities Department in 1976. Following more than three decades of dedicated service, he retired in 2009 as a Senior Utilities Maintenance Coordinator.
Music was a lifelong passion for Doug. For many years, he shared his talent as a singer with the band Murphy’s Fault, remaining a member until his passing. He treasured the friendships he formed with his bandmates, including one of his closest friends, Murf, fellow band member Roy, and the late Rock.
Doug accepted Christ at a young age at the Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. His enduring relationship with his Lord and Savior brings comfort to his loved ones, who find peace in the promise of being reunited with him in Heaven.
Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He also held the cherished title of “Grand Papa” to his four-legged companion, Pharaoh. His love for animals and his remarkable skill as a trainer were meaningful parts of his life.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jeana Rogers; his son, Chris Rogers (Megan); his inherited son, Djuan Fort (Cynthia); and his five grandchildren, Morgan, Kylia, Derek, Wyatt, and Ty.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Elaine Rogers; his father, Donald Elijah Rogers; and his inherited son, Lee A. Fort, Jr.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
