

Elaine earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston College, and a doctorate degree from the University of Florida. She was a lifelong educator, first teaching English at Wakefield High School in Massachusetts, and then at Valencia Community College and Seminole Community College. She went on to become a leader of numerous educational groups and a successful college administrator, becoming the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Seminole College. She had many cherished colleagues and mentors from her time at Valencia and Seminole. She took enormous satisfaction from having made a difference in the lives of her hundreds of students of all ages.
Elaine loved traveling and visiting museums, and enjoyed numerous trips around the globe, including all over the US, Canada, Europe, and China. She loved to relax by the ocean at her condo in Ormond Beach. A treasured place of enjoyment was the White Mountains in New Hampshire, where she spent time with family and friends in her childhood and again in retirement at her condo in Thornton.
Elaine loved reading, art, classical music, good seafood, anything having to do with space and NASA, and spending time with her family. She had a wide circle of dear friends in Geneva and Oviedo. She relished her book club, the Geneva Homemakers Club, and many other social groups with whom she spent her time and shared travels.
She is survived by her son, Drew Greenwood and wife Elisabeth of Orlando, Florida; daughter Ann Burns, husband John, and grandchildren Jack, David, and Lucy of Dallas, Texas; and brother, Paul Guenette of Orlando, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard G. Greenwood, and her parents, Ellen H. Guenette and Alban V. Guenette, of Salem, Massachusetts.
The family will host a visitation for family and friends at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Oviedo, Florida, on September 20, 2026, from noon to 4pm. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, New Hampshire on October 3. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
