George Buchanan Wolfenden Jr.

George Buchanan Wolfenden, Jr., 66 of Oviedo, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born December 16, 1948 in Indiana, Pennsylvania to Eleanor Houck Wolfenden and George Buchanan Wolfenden, both now deceased. First and foremost, George was a dedicated and proud father to his son James, and took every opportunity to provide guidance and support to his immediate family. He was also a loving brother to John Houck Wolfenden of Cincinnati, Ohio, with whom he communicated almost daily, Elaine Wolfenden Cockroft, of Bedford, Massachusetts, and Linda Wolfenden of Atlanta, Georgia, also deceased. George dedicated the last 20 years of his life to community service. He was a significant early director of the 211 Crisis and Senior Help Line in Central Florida. In this capacity, he helped tens of thousands of human beings in various types of distress. His passion for golf brought him to Florida and provided him with great joy throughout his life. For the last several years of his life, George dedicated his spiritual life to the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall of Central Florida. He is survived by his son James Boyd Wolfenden, 28, of Winter Springs, Florida; beloved brother John Houck Wolfenden and beloved sister Elaine Wolfenden. Also surviving is James’ mother, Patricia Murphy Wolfenden, with whom he remained close; Laurel Peifer Wolfenden, wife of brother John; Jay Cockroft, husband of sister Elaine; nephew John Wolfenden Jr, niece Anne Wolfenden Hamilton and her husband Cory Hamilton; niece Kathryn Wolfenden Perkel and her husband David Perkel; nieces Heather Cockroft Dennehy, Jill Cockroft Auger, and Kimberly Cockroft Kezima; and their children; and second cousins Benjamin Scott Hamilton and Jackson Noah Perkel. A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 13th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church, 5151 Lake Howell Road, Winter Park, Florida.
