Harold was the eldest of four children of Harold and Ruby Dwight (Davis) of East Longmeadow, MA who were the eighth generation to operate the Dwight family dairy farm where Harold started milking cows at three years of age. Harold graduated from Springfield Tech High School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1956 and was stationed in Taiwan where he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the military, Harold entered the University of Massachusetts and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He left behind the cold winters of the Northeast for sunny Florida where he met his wife, Aida Yolanda. They were married in Clearwater, FL in 1964. Harold’s long career in aerospace engineering included working for NASA in Houston, TX during the early days of the lunar space program. Over the course of the next years, Harold and his family lived in Central Florida, Northern Virginia and Southern California before returning to Central Florida for good in 1981.
Harold had an enviable green thumb and enjoyed sharing the bounty of his garden with friends and neighbors. He was a lifelong sports fan who never missed watching a Super Bowl. Harold enjoyed vacations with his wife and children, including visits to his wife’s extended family in Ecuador over the course of many years. Most of all, Harold loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was an avid student of the Bible throughout his life. Harold always had words of encouragement for friends and family which he shared in his quiet and thoughtful manner.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 56 years, Aida Yolanda Dwight (Ayala); son, David Dwight; daughter, Lita Dwight; and brother, Donald Dwight.
