Howard Fulton Bell, age 97 of Oviedo, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014. He was born July 12, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio. Howard moved to Daytona Beach as a teenager with his Mother and Father. He enlisted in the Marine Corps prior to WWII and served in the President’s Honor Guard at the 1939 New York World’s Fair and was a member of the President’s Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetary. He served in the Pacific Campaign during WWII and received the Purple Heart. After his Pacific service, he worked in the Marine recruitment office and was honorably discharged in 1944.He returned to Florida and began his career at the Railway Mails, part of the US Postal Service.Howard was an inventor and innovator of the modern day LED flashlight – he held the original patent for the process. He sent hundreds of these flashlights to Lutheran Missionaries all over the world and to Marine Corp. units serving in combat zones. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite S. Bell, and children Marianne and Ray Jokubaitus, Ruth and Mike Lane, Tom and Jolly Bell and 5 grand children, and 5 great-grand children . A memorial service will be held 2pm Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Chapel in Oviedo, Florida.
