In early March, Inez Fink was given the gift of celebrating her 107th birthday with family and friends. In her true birthday spirit, this also included singing to the music from the Hollerbach German band. Many of you were there and she was thankful to share that time with each of you.
On April 2, while residing at Tuskawilla Rehab and Nursing Center, Inez went to Heaven to be with Jesus. Prior to that, her home of 40 years was at The Lutheran Haven in Oviedo, FL. She was an icon in that community of The Lutheran Haven and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Inez was born in Royalton, New York on March 4, 1916. She was one of 9 children in her family, the only one to graduate from High School. She met Luther Fink in the church youth group, and they were married on July 6, 1935 at St. Michaels Lutheran Church, Wolcottsville, NY.
Inez worked as a homemaker, bookkeeper, and later worked for General Motors, Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY. She was mother to Roger, Gary, and Joan (who died at 17 months of age). We were always entertained by her stories over the years; one favorite being the story of Tom the Crow, a rescued bird who was quite fond of them!
Inez had many interests in life; including gardening, league bowling, crafting, fitness walking, and finding enjoyment in watching the birds outside her window. At family dinners, she would prepare a beautiful tablescape complete with flowers and tapered candles for all to enjoy. Evening happy hours were frequent with friends and family in attendance. She led an active lifestyle, meeting regularly with her women’s Bible study, her weekly breakfast group, volunteering at the church office, and attending all sporting events of her grandchildren. She challenged herself daily with solving crossword puzzles, word searches, and regularly had a board puzzle in process on her table.
Our Inez lived a full life and was always asked to share her secret to living a long life. Her response was the sage advice, “Stay active physically, mentally, and spiritually.” She will always be remembered as a beautiful, kind, gracious, independent, and gentle soul. She loved her Lord Jesus and we’re confident she’s experienced an incredible reunion in Heaven with her Savior … and other loved ones.
Her beloved, Luther, died in 2001.
Inez is survived by her sons, Roger and Gary, 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 13 great/great grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in all of us.
The Celebration of Life for Inez Fink will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at 11:00am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL.
