

John Raymond Lup, Sr. was born July 15, 1933 in Trenton, New Jersey and died in Orlando, Florida on June 8, 2025 just short of his 92nd birthday. He was a resident of Winter Springs, FL residing with his daughter and her husband. John was a first-generation American born the seventh of eight children to George Lup and Susan Pinter-Lup of Romania and Hungary. On February 17, 1956, he was married to Joan Elizabeth Mull in Maryland and were married for 65 years. They lived in Trenton until 1965 when the family moved to Sarasota, FL and lived there for over 30 years before returning to New Jersey in the late 1990s. About 15 years later they returned to Florida to be closer with family.
John worked for the American Standard Company, owned and operated J-Etts Beauty Salon with his wife Joan for over thirty years, and retired from CC&D systems as an electrical technician. He stayed active even in retirement working part-time and playing golf. He loved football and baseball, and refereed and umpired for the Florida High School Activities Association during the 1970s. A highlight was to umpire for the National and American League games during the 1979 umpires strike.
John served in the Army National Guard from August 1, 1950 to June 1, 1960 out of Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was baptized into Christ for the remission of his sins on May 2, 1976 and served as an Elder with the Central Church of Christ, Sarasota Church of Christ for many years. In retirement he enjoyed teaching men’s Bible classes for 14 years at the Bo Robinson Correctional Institute in Trenton, NJ.
John is survived by four children (John R. Lup, Jr. of Kissimmee, FL; Jim Roy Lup of St. Cloud Florida; Joy Elizabeth Basham of Winter Springs, Florida; Jeffrey Roy Lup of Winter Springs, Florida) and their spouses, ten grandchildren, and twenty-three great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Viola Faughnan of Ooltewah, TN, and Caroline Ward of Kennewick, WA, along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for the family on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Mount Peace Cemetery (East 10th Street, St. Cloud, FL 34769). Following the burial, a memorial service will be held in his honor on the same day at 1:30 pm at West Orange Christian Church (7325 Conroy-Windermere Rd., Orlando, FL). All family and friends are invited.
