He joined the army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Japan. He graduated from DeVry Tech in Chicago, IL. He worked at WOI-TV in Ames, IA, and then at KTVO TV station in Ottumwa, IA, and Kirksville, MO, for 25 years. He subsequently worked at WAVY-TV in Portsmouth, VA.
Then he retired to Orlando, FL, where he worked part-time at Baldwin-Fairchild for multiple years. Joseph was associated with the CFOA as a referee for high school football and basketball. He retired from officiating after 47 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Galvan; two children, Scott Galvan and Tanya Veras; and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Tatiana Veras.
