Kathleen Marie Thelen

May 18, 1950November 15, 2020

On this day of reflection and remembrance for our beloved Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Thelen, nee Kelley, born the 18th of May, 1950 the family extends their gratitude for your friendship and support. In her 70 years of joy, culminating on November 15th, 2020, Kathy shared her time along side of her strength and counterpart, Robert John Thelen, Jr. in a marriage originating on May 6th, 1972. Kathy is survived by her husband Robert, sister Paula Bresse, brother Thomas Kelley III, and is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Thomas Kelley Jr., and sister Lorraine Sawash.

As a family, consisting of Robert, daughter Kelley Marie Getty (Thelen), sons Scott David Thelen and Michael Duston Thelen, they explored the world. In those travels, each and every stop shaped the entire group into the caring, giving, and loving individuals that have graced the world to this day. With the addition of spouses and grandchildren the “family” now encompasses Jennnifer (Gross) Thelen (wife, Scott David) and their children (Kyleigh, Jacob, Aubrie), Karen (Ambrose) Thelen (wife, Michael Duston) and their children (Duston, Logan, Makenzie), along with Jay Getty (husband, Kelley Marie) and their children (Caleb, Noah, Leah).

Our Kathy, commonly found poolside, beachside or below sea level with a snorkel, mask and fins always enjoyed the murder mysteries found in the writings of several authors. In the home, the holidays provided another outlet for her creativity as the transformation from Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter were always a sight to be seen. The family invites you to visit and share your stories as we remember the spoon wielding, “get the can”, ring smacking, “sit cross legged and face your brother”, Words with Friends playing person we all cherish.

Visitation at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Oviedo on Mitchell Hammock Road will take place from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 18th, 2020 with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Thursday, November 19th, 2020 at 12:00pm at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Lockwood Boulevard in Oviedo. The Mass will be followed by a Committal Service at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church of Oviedo’s Youth Ministry.

To my loving sister, Kathy,

While I will miss you tremendously, I want to thank you for the decades of memories that I will cherish forever, from being the ring bearer at your wedding when I was 6 years old, to trips to the Groton sub base, to camping on Cape Cod, to vacation at Sunset Beach, to intense Christmas decorations at your house, to late night chats by the pool in Oviedo. Nobody could ask for a more understanding, caring and loving big sister.
Love You. - Tommy

To Bob, Kelley/Jay/Caleb/Noah/Leah/Scott/Jenn/Kyleigh/Jacob/Aubrie/Mike/Karen/Duston/Logan/Makenzie (Man, I hope I didn't miss anyone or I'll never hear the end of it)

Even though, due to my current health condition, I won't be able to celebrate Kathy's life with you in person, you are all in my prayers with my love and condolences. We have all been tremendously blessed to have Kathy as a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother during our lives.

Love to all - Uncle Tommy

Kathy and Bob,

Kathy, may you Rest In Peace.

Bob, Shipmate may you rest easy knowing that Kathy is in a better place. Cherish the times and memories you had with Kathy.

Linda and Kathy had each other for comfort, help and friendship while we were out at sea. Kathy was there for Linda while Linda was having our children. Remember the good times, camping with your VW Bus and the canoe, going to the 7 - 11 Club for Lobster and all the nights that we were together playing cards.

We love you both and will always be in our hearts.

Love, Bob and Linda
