

Ku Sung Shin Hsu passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 in Orlando, Florida at age 96. She was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1926. After graduating from Seoul Women’s Medical College, she worked with the armed forces to provide translation assistance and medical care at the end of the Korean War. After the war, she came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1953 to complete a residency in pediatrics. She went on to practice pediatrics for close to forty years in both Maryland and Florida. Her career was spent primarily in public and community health where she often served the economically disadvantaged. Dr. Hsu held various leadership positions in her field over the years. She was a member of the parish of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Winter Park, Florida.
Dr. Ku Hsu was married to Jeng Mein Hsu, PhD, who headed a research lab at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration in Bay Pines, Florida. He died in 1998 in Largo, Florida.
Ku Sung Shin Hsu is survived by her two sisters, Ki Sung Shin Choi and Hoo Sung Shin Jung and their families. She is also survived by her daughters Lily S. Hsu and husband, Reginald Pearless, Charlene Hsu Gross and husband, Bobby Gross, Kathleen Hsu Frezza and husband, Tony Frezza, and her son John P. Hsu. She had six grandchildren, Michael Pearless and wife Meaghan, Matthew Pearless, and Emily Pearless; Evan Gross and wife, Amy Krieg; Alexis Frezza and A. J. Frezza. Great grandchildren are McKenna Pearless, Madison Pearless and Ellie Pearless. She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews living in California and Seoul, South Korea.
Although Dr. Hsu had many professional accomplishments, it was her quiet strength and determination that was ever present in her roles as mother and wife. Family was always first as she balanced being a full-time physician and raising four children.
A celebration of life service for Ku will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 11 am at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 501 E Mitchell Hammock Road, Oviedo, FL 32765, followed by a gathering of family and friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
