Mary Clausen Motsinger

Born on April 10, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa, Mary lived in many places throughout her life, but Bettendorf, Iowa, and Daytona Beach, Florida, were the places she most often called home. She graduated from Rollins College in 1970.

Mary was sweet, loving, caring and wonderfully easy to talk to. Her trusting nature only added to her warmth and gentle spirit. Naturally social, she treasured her friendships and genuinely enjoyed connecting with others. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving sister and a truly wonderful friend.

Mary found joy in golf, reading, playing games, cooking and spending time with the people she loved. She especially loved cruising and the adventures, new places and happy memories that came with it. She remained active throughout her life and, for many years, faithfully attended water aerobics at her local YMCA three days a week. Whether taking a cruise, sharing a meal, enjoying a game, visiting with friends or simply spending time with family, Mary brought her unmistakable smile and laugh—two things those who knew her will never forget.

Mary also possessed remarkable strength - after facing multiple forms of cancer beginning in 2011, she continued to meet life with courage, determination, positivity and joy. She was a fighter in every sense of the word.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Motsinger of Daytona Beach, FL, who passed away in 2023; her parents, Marilyn (Moritz) Clausen in 1974 and William Clausen in 1978 of Davenport, IA; and her brother, Jack Clausen in 1998 of Daytona Beach, FL.

Mary is survived by her children, David Ramey and his partner, Shannon Wortman of Woodstock, GA; Michael W. Ramey and his wife, Kristie of Oviedo, FL; and Marisa Ramey and her partner, Mitchell Culler of Ormond, FL; her stepdaughters, Mitzi Motsinger of Brevard, NC and Meghan Motsinger of New Smyrna Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Michael D. Ramey and his wife, Amy of Greenville, NC; Ramey Barnett of Sanford, FL; Brody Motsinger of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Gabriel Collado of Rockville, MD; Chris Soto and his wife, Isis of Port Orange, FL; and Briana Toruno of Oviedo, FL; and her brother, Eric Clausen, and his wife, Kristi of Kansas City, KS. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Mary will be deeply missed, but the love she gave, the friendships she nurtured, and the happiness carried in her laugh and smile will remain with her family and friends always.

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, she will be cremated. A celebration of her life will be planned for the coming months, with details to be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the AdventHealth Foundation or the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation.
