Nancy Simmons was born to Joseph Vincent Walker and Pauline Burke Walker in Columbus, Ohio. She attended the Ohio State University, where she met her husband, Paul Wesley Simmons. They married on September 2, 1967 in Columbus, Ohio. During their marriage, they lived in Wisconsin, Virginia and California, but in 1977, they eventually settled in Burke, VA. After raising her three children, she became an administrative assistant to the Virginia State Police until she and Paul retired and moved to Florida in 2014.
Nancy loved the Lord and sought to serve him throughout her adult life. She also loved to pray; it's been said that if she knew you she was praying for you. She loved singing in the choir and praise team in church and participating in many bible studies and small group communities, especially the Joy Group at University Presbyterian Church. She loved her family and was devoted to each of her children and grandchildren. She spent a lot of time reading, walking, and keeping up with her friends and family on social media. She was also known to enjoy corny jokes and goofy memes. One of Nancy’s favorite verses comes from the Gospel According to John. She loved the idea that hearing Jesus’ voice changes us.
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her."
Nancy is survived by her husband, Paul Simmons; son, Scott Simmons (Sundee); daughter, Merri Lewis (Daniel); and daughter, Heather Shannon (Michael). She has seven surviving grandchildren, Nathan Simmons, Emily Simmons, Julianna Simmons, Christopher Lewis, Victoria Lewis, Robert Lewis, and Rebecca Lewis. She is also survived by her brother Marty Walker (Debra); sister, Barbara Seagle (Daniel), and brother, Daniel Walker (Christine). Her sister Amy Walker passed away in 2013.
Arrangements entrusted to Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home. Her memorial is scheduled to be on December 6, 2025 at 11:00 am at University Presbyterian Church in East Orlando.
