OBITUARY

Ronald Albert Greene

June 24, 1938 – February 25, 2021
IN THE CARE OF

Baldwin-Fairchild Oviedo Funeral Home

Ronald Greene, retired Professor,

of Oviedo, FL, 82, beloved husband of Lori and loving father of Toni, Michael, Pamela and Megan passed away on February 25, 2021.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We are grateful for all the wonderful memories we have of him. We miss him terribly. Our hearts are beyond sad.

He was the son of Anne Pipik and John Clifford Greene of Endicott, New York.

He went to Union-Endicott High School. Class of 1956. He studied at Niagara, SUNY Oneonta and Castleton Universities. Class of 1964.

Ron was an only child, but Frank and Korreen Rocci were like his brother and sister. Frank recalls meeting him long ago, right after Ron graduated from college. They both worked at the Hillview Country Club in Reading, MA. Ron was an Assistant Golf Pro and Caddy Master while he was looking for a teaching job.

Ron was always eating breakfast, his favorite meal of the day, and pizza. When everyone realized Ron's love of pizza they dubbed him "The Pizza Man".

He and Frank were close friends for over 60 years. They were like brothers.

A native New Yorker, he lived on Long Island and was an English teacher at North Babylon High School where he was Chair of the English Department and helped write the Regents exams for the state of New York. He taught for 24 years before retiring and moving to Oviedo, Florida in 1992.

He became a Professor teaching English, Education, and Humanities at Valencia and UCF part time.

A great teacher and mentor, he loved his students and they loved him. Teaching was his passion. He loved it. He challenged his students to think and open their minds. He taught them that it's important to question everything before you just accept things as they are presented. He provoked thought, created dialogue and helped them understand what is going on in the world. His classes were taught with fun, humor and laughter. He was always willing to help his students with problems they had out of class. He cared about his students and was willing to stand up and fight for them.

He loved playing tennis his whole life and he loved to travel with his family. His love of traveling began in college when he backpacked through Europe. This love of traveling lasted his whole life as he traveled to over 26 countries with his wife, Lori, and daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Chris.

He is survived by his wife Lori; his 3 daughters, Toni Hoffman, Pamela Wachta and Megan Landowski; son, Michael Costa; his sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, along with his dog Lola, who was his best friend.
