Rosalie Maynard Bowen

Rosalie Maynard Bowen, 78, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on September 20, 2016 after suffering from the long illness of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).Visitation will be from 6-8 on Friday, September 30th, at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home on Mitchell Hammock Road. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on October 1st at St. Luke’s Lutheran Chapel with the Rev. Gary Schuschke officiating.

Rosalie was born in Detroit, Michigan to Edna Bernice Hopkins and James Harold Maynard on August 31, 1938. She moved with her parents to Sebring, Florida in 1948 where she grew up. She graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Elementary Education in 1960. From elementary through high school Rosalie was always involved in music. She was in the FSU Marching Chiefs Band where she played the drums. When she graduated, she worked as an elementary teacher in Sebring, Florida for one year. From there, she moved to Orlando, Florida where she worked as an Elementary Teacher and Media Specialist and retired from Orange County Public Schools after 28 years. Along the way, Rosalie taught two years in Pinellas County, taught education courses at UCF, and obtained her Masters in Library Science from the University of South Florida. She was involved with the FSU Boosters/Alumni, DAR, Colonial Dames, and many other organizations. Rosalie has always been an active member of a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregation in the Orlando area. She has sung in choirs, directed choirs, taught Sunday school and adult Bible classes as well as taught in church elementary schools.

Rosalie is preceded in death by her sister, Eva Ann Maynard Smith and her brother, James Harold Maynard, Jr.

Rosalie is survived by her husband of 53 years, John W. Bowen, her two children: Kathleen L. Bowen Tesch (John David), John W. Bowen, Jr (Elizabeth), and four grandchildren: Caroline Elisabeth Tesch, Emma Kathleen Tesch, John Cooper Tesch, and Spenser Rollin Tesch.
