Lillian Wemple, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Godmother, Sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18th, 2025, at the age of 89. Lillian was born on December 6th, 1935, in Weirton, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Greek immigrants Alexander and Irene Kontoeleftherio (Kontis), who moved to the United States in 1920 to build a better life. She had two sisters, Cleo and Helen, and one brother, Angelo. She grew up in a close-knit and loving Greek family.
Lillian attended Weirton Elementary School, Weir Junior High School, and Weir High School, where she was a proud member of the high school chorus. She also sang in the choir at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, nurturing a lifelong love of music and faith.
She learned the art of cooking from her mother, a passion that would remain a cornerstone of her life. Lillian held early jobs at Firestone Tire and WEIR Radio station, where through a mutual friend she met the love of her life, Richard Wemple. After relocating to Florida, she also worked at Winter Park Hospital as a switchboard operator and in the insurance department.
Lillian’s proudest professional accomplishment was helping her beloved husband, Richard, start Atlas Pools of Central Florida in the 1970s. The business was more than a livelihood—it was a legacy built on love and the desire to teach their children the value of hard work and craftsmanship.
Lillian will be remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit. She was a devoted mother who poured love into everything she did, especially her cooking. She found joy in sharing meals, celebrating her Greek heritage, and creating a home filled with laughter, faith, and music. One of her greatest joys was listening to her husband Richard’s silly songs where he would make up lyrics, which always made her laugh.
After Richard’s passing, Lillian remained a pillar of strength for her family. A year later, she made the brave decision to move to Legacy Pointe at UCF Assisted Living, where she was embraced by a warm community of friends and staff. She spent her years surrounded by love, laughter, and visits from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces.
Lillian is now reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ along with her loving husband Richard, her son Joseph, granddaughter Jennifer, great granddaughter Alivia, beloved sister Cleo, brother Angelo and her parents Alexander and Irene along with the rest of our loving family and friends. Her legacy lives on with her entire family and all those who were blessed to know her.
Grant eternal rest, O Lord, to the soul of Thy departed servant, Lillian, and make her memory be eternal.
