Sadye Beth Fleming Duda, 84, died peacefully on Dec. 22, 2017 at her home in Oviedo, Fla., from complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was born on Sept. 4, 1933 in Houston County, Ala., and moved to Oviedo, Fla., in 1945. She graduated from Oviedo High School in 1951 and became a registered nurse (RN) after graduating from Orange Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1954. Her nursing career had her spending time in hospitals and clinics in New Orleans; Washington, D.C. (Walter Reed); and Gainesville, Belle Glade, and Oviedo, Fla. Sadye had a lifelong love of community and served in many fundraising roles, including for the American Heart Association and Glades Day High School in Belle Glade, Fla. She served as a volunteer leader for the Belle Glade Garden Club, Tuskawilla Ladies Golf Association, and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. In 1957, Sadye and her husband, Ed Duda, moved to Belle Glade and lived there until 1978, at which time they moved back to Oviedo. Sadye and her family loved living in Belle Glade and have fond memories of the time spent there. Sadye was a devoted wife of 62 years to Ed, a loving mother to Danny (Kathy), Diane, Tommy (Karen), and Sammy (Amy). She was a grandmother to Jimmy (Patty) and Jessica Duda, Katherine and Carter (Julie) Miller, Eric, Christopher, Marybeth, Samantha, and Jackson Duda, and great grandmother to Jamie and Jacob Duda. She is also survived by her Fleming sisters — JoAnn Ward, Peggy Malcolm, June Duda, and Bessie Mooney. She is preceded in death by Michael Duda, son of Tommy and Karen Duda. Sadye will be remembered for her generous love and interest in people, a willingness to serve others, and her strong Christian faith. Her interests and hobbies included baking (all outstanding, but most notably the Birthday Cake, apple and cheese strudel, butke, and numerous other specialties). She was a gourmet cook, avid golfer (two holes in one, including one at Royal Dublin, Ireland), and an accomplished seamstress. She loved gardening, music, and travel. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Jan. 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 2021 West State Road 426, Oviedo, Fla. A luncheon reception will be held immediately following the service in Founder’s Hall which is adjacent to the church where the family will receive family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family wishes to have contributions directed to St. Luke’s Memorial Fund, 2021 West State Road 426, Oviedo, Fla., 32765.
