Samuel Jay Davis lll was called back to his heavenly Father on August 12, 2017, after suffering extensive injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident on the evening of August 2, 2017. Even though Jay is with his Lord and Savior, his family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of such an important figure in their lives. Jay was born on July 9th, 1959 in Knoxville, TN to Samuel Jay Davis Jr and Betty Carter Davis, his beloved “B.D.” (both deceased). He grew up a proud southern boy not far from Louisville in southern Indiana and most of his adult life was spent in Tennessee, Louisiana and Florida. Jay was especially loved by his wife, Susie, of 28 years and their five daughters. Although outnumbered by females at home, he was swift to remind them, “It’s good to be the King!” If anyone inquired as to how he was doing, he always responded, “Peachy Keen.” Jay was an annoyingly proud I.U. Hoosier, Miami Marlins lover (and hater at times) and college hoops addict who taught his daughters the importance of proper bracket selection. First and foremost, Jay was a dedicated man of the Lord who lived to serve, especially at his two home churches, University Carillon United Methodist Church and Renovation Church. He served with joy and enthusiasm. Jay’s love for life also gave rise to many other passions. Amongst these passions were time spent with family, friends and co-workers; his No Bats Baseball Club, its brothers and charities; music, especially at live venues; his sales career, particularly in the breast and prostate cancer field; motorcycle riding, his 1970 Chevelle SS, swimming and biking, his trademark hair and expansive wardrobe; telling inappropriate jokes at the most inopportune times; stealing the spotlight; yelling at or grounding his daughters; and pursuing hot light Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts. Jay is survived by his wife, Susie; daughters, Emily, Claudia, Olivia, Katie (husband, Nathan) and Bailey; and sisters, Kathy (husband, David and son, Jordan) of New Port Richey, FL and Rebecca of Port Charlotte, FL. A memorial service will be held in Jay’s honor at 4:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2017 at University Carillon United Methodist Church, 1395 Campus View Ct, Oviedo, FL 32765. Immediately following the service is a Celebration of Life, from 5:30-9:30 pm, at the Oviedo Amphitheatre & Cultural Center at Center Lake Park, 357 Center Lake Ln, Oviedo, FL 32765. Family and friends of Jay, Susie, Emily, Claudia, Olivia, Katie and Bailey are welcome to attend both affairs.
