Sara Sharman Lester was born to Ralph Ingram Lester and Myrtis Olivia Sharman on October 22nd, 1942 at Orange General Hospital in Orlando, Florida. As a child Sara loved playing with paper dolls and coloring. As a teenager and adult she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Sara graduated from Howard College on May 30th, 1964. Prior to having her sons, Sara was a 4th grade school teacher in Orlando and Tampa.
Sara met her husband, Robert James Martin on June 7th, 1965 at church. She was playing the piano and Robert was on a break from his studies at the University of South Florida. They were married on December 3rd 1966 and lived in Tampa where Bob finished his degree and Sara taught school. They returned to Orlando and had two sons, Glen Robert Martin and Eric James Martin.
Sara and Bob honeymooned at Saint Augustine and loved to visit there as a couple. As a family the Martins enjoyed visiting North Carolina where they owned a cabin with Bob’s family.
Sara enjoyed having birthday and Christmas parties at her home. She was a loving wife and mother. Sara’s house was always open to Eric and Glen’s friends and cousins. She always made everyone around her feel welcome, respected, and loved.
Sara was known as Mema to her grand-daughters Alyssa and Olivia. Mema loved to bring them notebooks and stickers as special presents. Sara was always impressed by the way her daughter-in-law Diane had raised these young ladies with her son Glen.
Sara is survived by her sons, daughter-in-law, grand-daughters, and her beloved sister Sharman Hughes who she texted and talked with everyday. A celebration of Sara’s life will be held at University Carillon Church in Oviedo, Florida on June 18th at 6:30 PM.
And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 1st John 5:11
