Suzanne Atchison Whisenant

Suzanne Atchison Whisenant, daughter of Lewis Francis Atchison and Virginia Hester Atchison, was called home to the Lord on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Suzanne, lovingly called Sue by friends and family, was born in Washington D. C. She graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She taught students in the United States, England, and West Germany before marrying Bennette E. Whisenant. As the wife of an Air Force officer, Sue taught in the Philippines and the United States. Sue furthered her education by earning her Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance at Troy University. After moving to the Orlando area, she worked as a counselor and psychologist for Osceola County Public Schools. She became a Florida Realtor and then obtained her real estate broker’s license prior to running her own company, Whisenant Realty. Over the years, Sue was involved in many organizations including: Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, the American Business Women’s Association, and the P. E. O. Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization) for which she served as her chapter’s President multiple times. She felt you could never have too many friends and as a result enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends, and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bennette E. Whisenant; son Todd Whisenant and wife Lesli and their three children: Andrew, Kayla and Matthew; daughter Stacy Stayanoff and husband Joseph, and Stacy’s son, Jacob Wilson. She was 85 years old at the time of her passing and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held in the main sanctuary of The First United Methodist Church of Oviedo, FL on September 25, 2021 at 2 p.m. For those who are unable to attend in person, the service will also be live streamed on the church’s website at https://fumcoviedo.com/sermons-live-stream/
