Anne C. Garnero

July 26, 1929- March 14, 2017

Anne Garnero Richerts passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She lived a long, full life dedicated to her family, her art, and her community. Annie came to the Monterey Peninsula as a young child in 1939 from Wappingers Falls New York with her parents, Nicholas and Carmela Guastella and her older sister, Lucy. She graduated from Pacific Grove High School where she met Chester Garnero, her future husband and father of her seven children. Annie always said she wanted to make the world a better place through her children. Annie had an impact on everyone she came into contact with. Her quick wit, sparkle, and love of life enriched all who met her. Her love of family and friends was deeply felt. She approached everything she did with passion, honesty, and without compromise. She embodied inner strength and wisdom, and she had a vision and insight that made her a woman ahead of her time.

As an artist, Annie worked in varied media: oil, watercolor, pastels, mosaic, fashion, floral, and interior design. She achieved recognition as a creative, accomplished ceramicist. Annie volunteered as a twenty-year guide at the Monterey Aquarium, a singer with the Choraleers through the City of Monterey Recreation Department, a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, and a member of the Pacific Grove High School Alumni Association. A fashion consultant in retail, Annie was a well-known sight around the Peninsula with her red hair and matching hot, red Alfa Romeo!

Annie is survived by her loving husband Bob Richerts, her children Joe (June), Nick (Gina), Emmie, Cammie (Jeff), William, Ed (Pam), Theresa (Rosie), 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank Dr. Nancy Rubin and her staff at the Pacific Cancer Care for their excellent care and compassion this past year.

A memorial service will be held at San Carlos Cathedral 500 Church Street, Monterey, on April 22nd at 930 a.m. Reception to follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monterey Bay Aquarium, 886 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA, 93940 or the Pacific Grove Alumni Association, PO Box 51396, Pacific Grove, CA, 93950 or charity of choice.
