Betty Lou Grimm passed away peacefully the morning of January 17, 2024 in Pacific Grove, CA, where she had lived for the past 27 years. She was blessed to live to 97, and was to born to Jack and Lucia Hughes on December 4, 1926 in Arbuckle, CA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, always supportive to her family and friends. She was fun loving, easy going, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
She spent her childhood years in Merced and Long Beach, CA until her early teens. At that time, she returned to Arbuckle when her father took over the family farm. She graduated from Pierce High School, and continued her education at Sacramento City College, majoring in art. It was there that she began dating her future husband, John Grimm Jr. (aka: Grimmy). They were married in 1948 in Sacramento, CA, and returned to Colusa County to begin their lives together.
Betty devoted her time raising their three daughters, as well as being involved in her local community. She was a leader in the 4-H club, and supported the many school activities of her children. Sewing, golfing and fishing were a few of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed playing bridge throughout her life; attending many symphonies and theater productions, as well as shopping in San Francisco; and especially cooking fantastic meals. She was always a gracious host, preparing a multitude of delicious dishes for family and friends.
She was supportive of Grimmy in his farming endeavors until his retirement at age 65. Shortly after, they moved to Banning, CA, where they enjoyed these years playing golf, gardening, and traveling to visit friends and family. To live closer to their daughters and families, they eventually returned north, settling in Pacific Grove. After his death, Betty continued making new friends, enjoying water exercise classes, attending many local symphonies and events in the Monterey area, and continuing her weekly bridge games. Her creativity and love of art also brought continued joy throughout her later years.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Grimmy; daughter, Sandra Johnson; and sister, Barbara Sanna. She is survived by her daughters, Jan Voelz (Blair) of Woodland, CA, Sue Bushman (Mike) of Aromas, CA and eight grandchildren; Kina Voelz, Eli Voelz, Meghan Roberts, Caylon Ortiz, Neil Bushman, Cole Bushman, Scott Bushman, and Andrew Bushman; as well as ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
