With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of a truly remarkable woman—a loving mother, guiding light, and unwavering source of strength. Betty Ann Wilson passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 89 in Carmel, CA.
Born on August 17, 1936, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, Ann was a lifelong learner and a proud alumna of the University of Louisville. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Education from the university. She was the heart of her family; the kind of mother whose love knew no limits and whose presence brought comfort in every storm. A "free spirit" with a contagious smile, she spent her career as an educator for the Jefferson County Public Schools and was known for her ability to connect with anyone she met.
In 1975, Ann met George Mickle Wilson while visiting Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. They were wed in that same striking desert setting two years later in 1977. Their marriage brought together a blended family of eight children, and they shared a partnership that radiated a unique and vibrant joy for nearly fifty years. Throughout her life, Ann was a passionate advocate for women's rights and dedicated herself to community initiatives supporting teen pregnancy and social equity.
Her days were filled with quiet sacrifices, endless patience, and a fierce devotion to those she held dear. Whether through her gentle words, warm embrace, or steadfast support, she made sure her children always felt seen, protected, and deeply loved. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into lasting memories— laughter around the kitchen table, late-night talks filled with wisdom, and small acts of kindness that spoke volumes.
Beyond her role as a mother, she was a friend, a teacher, and an inspiration. She taught by example, showing what it means to be resilient, to love unconditionally, and to face life with grace and courage. Continuing a family legacy of community engagement, she also gave her time and heart as a volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the values she instilled, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered as the extraordinary woman who made a house a home for many.
Ann is survived by her children and their partners: Benjamin Jon Williams III and Heather Williams (Austin, TX), Donald Lee Williams II and Pam Urbanovsky-Williams (Corpus Christi, TX), Mike and Lori Wilson (Corvallis, OR), David Wilson and Judy Simons (Oakland, CA), John and Nancy Wilson (Corvallis, OR), Martha and Bill Blackmore (Fairfield, IA), Dan Wilson (Kilauea, HI), Ted Wilson and Ellen Tappon (Corvallis, OR).
She also leaves behind her sister, Gail Owen, her brother, Morris Owen, and her sister-in-law Wilma Owen, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ann was predeceased by her daughter, Vicki Lynn Williams; her husband, George M. Wilson; her parents, Everett S. Owen Sr. and Beatrice Arnold; and her brother, Everett S. Owen Jr. (Bubby).
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. In honor of Ann’s memory, donations may be made to AAUW Monterey Peninsula Branch (https://mpb-ca.aauw.net/donate) or the Monterey Bay Aquarium (www.montereybayaquarium.org/join-give/ways-to-give/give).
