

Conrad Floyde Newberry died on January 3, 2024 in Pacific Grove, California. He died peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by Sally (née Sarah L Thonn) his wife of almost 66 years; his son Conrad F. Newberry, Jr., and his wife, Gloria; his daughter Susan L. Miller (née Newberry), and her husband, Ken; and his grandson Nicholas E. Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Audra A. (née Newmaster) and Ragan M. Newberry; his brother, James W. Newberry; and his youngest son, Thomas E. Newberry.
Cremation will take place according to arrangements made by The Paul Mortuary, and his ashes will be interred at the Pacific Grove Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at the Pacific Grove Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Pacific Grove, California at a later date. Conrad was born in Neodesha, Kansas on Tuesday, November 10, 1931 at 9:30 in the morning. Conrad grew up in Independence, Kansas working a number of summer and part-time jobs. He was a second generation Eagle Scout, earning some 46 Merit Badges. As an Explorer Scout, he attained the rank of Ranger.
Conrad completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California (USC), where he received his BEME (Aeronautical Sequence) degree in 1957. He completed graduate studies in fluid dynamics and education at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), receiving his MSME degree in 1971 and his MAEd degree in 1974. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Conrad worked for numerous aircraft companies as well as taught for over 40 years. He taught Aeronautical Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, California for 30 years. He also taught aircraft and missile design at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his service throughout his professional career.
In March of 1957, Conrad met his beautiful princess, Sally, and married her on January 26, 1958. They had three children; Conrad F. Newberry, Jr., Thomas E. Newberry, and Susan L. Newberry. Conrad deeply loved his family.
Conrad liked to play bridge, read, and listen to jazz. History, archaeology, and theology were of particular interests of his. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of USC college football, basketball, and baseball. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and at times served in elected church leadership roles as a Deacon.
