May 7, 1962 ~ November 14, 2012
Monterey ~ Edmund Genovese, age 50, passed away November 14 after a long illness. Eddie was a devoted father, loving brother, wonderful uncle and cousin and dear friend to many.
Eddie was born and raised in Monterey and was a graduate of Monterey High School, Class of 1980. He began working at a young age at his family’s restaurant, Geno’s, on Fisherman’s Wharf and then followed in his father’s footsteps as a commercial fisherman locally as well as fishing for salmon in Alaska and herring in the Bay Area.
Eddie was always a sports enthusiast, whether it was coaching baseball, following his daughter’s games or playing fantasy football. He was a lifelong A’s and Raider’s season ticketholder.
Eddie’s family is happy that he had great times in the past two months. He celebrated his sister’s 60th birthday in Las Vegas in October and then returned there with his cousins and friends during the World Series. Being Giant’s fans, the games couldn’t have gone better. Then to make it three for three, Eddie was thrilled when President Obama was re-elected.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Phyllis Genovese, and his older sister, Angelyn Gallaro. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Cory, of Arizona; his sister, Lenore (Paul) Perez and many nieces, nephews and cousins (especially Sal, who was his best friend) and his many friends.
Memorial services will be held at The Paul Mortuary Chapel tomorrow, Saturday, November 24 at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions are suggested to Monterey High School Athletic Department, 101 Herrmann Drive, Monterey, 93940.
