Pacific Grove ~ Edward F. Roveto, a native of Saugus, Massachusetts, passed away at his home after a brief illness. Following graduation from St. Mary’s High School in Saugus, he attended St. John’s Seminary in Boston. While serving in the US Army, Ed attended the Defense Language Institute studying Russian. He met his wife, Dianne, while attending the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies from which he received a Master’s Degree in Russian History. He earned his Doctorate in Russian History from UC Santa Barbara.
Ed next received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Jose State University. His career as a highly respected social worker with Monterey County Child Protective Services spanned fifteen years.
Ed loved reading, traveling and all types of music. He was dedicated to maintaining his health and was passionate about his twice-daily walks on the Recreation Trail.
Ed is survived by Dianne, his beloved wife of 42 years; his daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Roveto of San Francisco; his sister, Lois (Jim) Bragan of Lynn, Massachusetts; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Martin of Pacific Grove; his brother-in-law, Bart (Kristi) Whelan of Big Sur and his nieces, Pamela Bragan and Bree Whelan and nephews, Blu and Shon Whelan.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity.
