Eleonora Y. Ogneva, a twenty-year Monterey resident, passed away unexpectedly at her home. Born in Irkutsk, Siberia, Russia, she received her PhD in Chemistry from Irkutsk State University. Eleonora had a prolific scientific career. Following retirement as a Chemistry Professor in 1996, she immigrated to the United States to be near her daughter’s family.
Until the last minute, Eleonora was interested in life, arts, literature, poetry, history, and politics. She was always surrounded by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Eleonora is survived by her daughter, Olga Fridman of Monterey; her sister, Irina, of Irkutsk; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, Vladimir Ognev, preceded her in death in 2010.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, December 22 at 12:00 noon at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea in Pacific Grove.
