I lived in a building on Kelton Avenue in the Westwood section of Los Angeles next door to an apartment building owned by Flo Allen.  She had removed an older female tenant from her building, and apparently by law, Flo had to reside in that same apartment for a year.

One night in 1994, the scary Northridge Earthquake erupted, and Flo Allen graciously let several people into her apartment to feel safe.  I really appreciated that, and Flo effortlessly exuded beauty and charisma.  She had a dog that comically bumped its head on a table as many of us gathered in Flo's living room right after the earthquake.  I remember quipping,"My God, the dog's going to get a brain tumor."  

The next day as we stood outside her building, Flo touched my face and said I looked pretty.  That was 24 years ago, and I vividly remember that moment to this day.

I only met this lovely gracious lady one time.  She showed such kindness to  my husband and me.   I had the privileged of knowing her through Diane and Joe Giannantonio.  She was truly a great and kind person who had an incredible sense of humor and purpose in life.    She will be so very missed by many.

It broke my heart to learn of Flo’s passing.  And now to have to summarize in a few short sentences what she meant to me.  But here goes.  Flo was a dear friend to me, someone who was kind, gracious and generous in personality and spirit.   Not only to me  but also to my friends who visited from Florida and Michigan.  She went out of her way to welcome them in her home and make their stay in Pacific Grove special.
I will miss all the laughs we shared which were many and the phone calls once I moved away.  You always made me smile.
So dear Flo, I thank you for so many things, your friendship most of all.
I will always miss you and the times we shared.  Much love.
