

Fred Onofrio Conte, known affectionately as "Papa," and “Fast Freddy” to many, passed away on September 4, 2024, in Monterey, California, at the age of 91. Born on May 24, 1933, in Monterey, CA, Fred lived a full and vibrant life characterized by his dedication to family, community, and a variety of passions.
Fred graduated from Monterey High School and continued his education at Monterey Peninsula College. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard a minesweeper and played a role in the evacuation of the French from Indochina.
Professionally, Fred was a respected figure at AT&T, where he worked for over 39 years, holding multiple positions and earning the title of Sales Manager of the Year for ten consecutive years. He also excelled as a real estate agent in the greater Bay Area.
An avid golfer, Fred could often be found on the golf course on Mondays and Wednesdays with his friends and brother, Frank. His love for the sport extended to volunteering at the AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament. Fred also enjoyed camping, model ship building, and was a loyal fan of the SF Giants and SF 49ers, attending four of the team’s five Super Bowls.
Fred's family was central to his life. He was instrumental in starting the Union Little League and coached All-Star teams. His commitment to family was evident in his attendance at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, often traveling to various locations to support them.
Fred is survived by his sister Marie and his brother Frank, and all five of his children: Janice, Karen, Stephen (Pam), Dennis (Jill), and Shannon (Ron); ten grandchildren: and nine great-grandchildren: He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, and his Grandsons Christopher, and Taylor.
Fred's memorial service will be held at The Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo on September 24th at 10:00 AM. His interment will follow on September 25th at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove at 11:00 AM. The Paul Mortuary in Pacific Grove, California, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Fred Conte will be remembered as a pillar of his community, a loving family man, and a friend to all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and spirited enthusiasm will continue to inspire surviving family and friends.
