Monterey ~ George B. Brown, a retired tile setter, passed away at his home with his wife, Mercedes, by his side. Born in San Jose, he moved to Pacific Grove as a child.
George joined the military during his senior year at Pacific Grove High School. He served in the US Navy both in the European theater and in Korea. He survived his ship being torpedoed in the English Channel and spent his 18th birthday on Normandy Beach. He was inducted into the Elks Lodge of Monterey on April 21, 1947 which made him the longest standing member at the lodge.
A Celebration of George’s Life with military honors will take place at the Monterey Elks Lodge this Saturday, August 3, at 1:00 PM.
