Georgia Lee Hollister

January 9, 1942October 20, 2017

Georgia Lee Hollister, beloved wife of Ted Hollister, passed away on October 20 after a two-year-long illness. Always brave and steadfast, Georgia battled her illness with the grace and composure that she had lived her entire life. Georgia spent her childhood and early life in Crawford, Nebraska, a small farming community. She graduated from high school with her twenty-eight classmates in 1960. After high school, she pursued her career as a secretary with a series of increasing responsibilities and moved to San Francisco in the mid-60’s. Georgia then moved to the Monterey Peninsula where she was Deputy City Clerk and Treasurer for the City of Pacific Grove. It was there that Ted Hollister, a local veterinarian, had the immensely good fortune to meet her and find the love of his life. Ted and Georgia married and spent the next forty years together. In the second half of her life, Georgia had the time to develop her innate gift for sewing, calligraphy and needlepoint. In addition, Georgia and Ted shared a love of animals and were always surrounded by a variety of dogs, cats and other creatures that just “happened into their lives”. For thirty years, she volunteered weekly at the SPCA shops in Pacific Grove and Carmel as well as spending several years with the Auxiliary raising money to support various SPCA causes. Surviving Georgia are her husband, Ted, and Veronica, the perfect dog; children, Betsy Foy, Melia Bosworth, Dinah Williams and Andy Hollister and their families and her sister, Jo Hoshino and husband Dan, their children and grandchildren. Georgia was a kind, loving and talented person who will be sorely missed by many. A Celebration of Her Life including a display of her calligraphy and needlepoint will be at Forest Hill in Pacific Grove on Sunday, December 3 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

Arrangements under the direction of The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, CA.

Dear Ted and Family
We knew Georgia primarily through the Dress The Child/Salvation Army event which we've done for years. She was always such a shining light and perfect for such an important program. Ted, the two of you set such a wonderful example for all of us as to how a good marriage works, especially when it comes to the teamwork you displayed. We know you to be such a good man and good husband and have missed you both the last couple of years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and may God bless you going forward. We are not golfers, but hope to see you somewhere in the future!

My late wife Nancy and I shared a love of cairn terriers with Georgia and Ted and it was always a pleasure to run into them on the recreation trail or at the annual dog show with their cairn Veronica. Those were good days. Georgia will be missed.

Georgia was such a warm and loving person. Her smile would light up a room! And, of course, I always enjoyed her latest and greatest - Veronica. I'm so glad that I was able to meet her and share her love of her dogs with her.

We didn't know that Georgia was ill and are so sorry to hear of her passing. Georgia was a good friend, client, a fellow dog lover. We will miss her. Rosalie and I send our love and condolences to the entire Hollister family.
