Henry Linares

June 12, 1924 – April 9, 2014

Henry Linares passed away peacefully at his home on April 9th with his family by his side. He was born in Monterey, California 89 years ago one of eight brothers to Antonio and Frances Linares. He attended Bay View School and San Carlos Elementary School. He worked at the American Can Company on Cannery Row as a Farming Press Operator and at the age of 19, he joined the Army during WWII serving for three years. He served with the 118th Anti Aircraft Brigade where he fought three major battles including the Normandy Beach Invasion. After returning from the war, he started his plastering apprenticeship and worked over 40 years here on the Monterey Peninsula where he holds a 60-year gold card with local 300 Plasterers Union.

In 1947, he married Kathryn Olsen who preceded him in death. They had three children, Katie, Lyle and Nanci, two grandchildren Jerrod Steudler, Jaime Hinton and two great- grandchildren Gabriele and Gwyneth Hinton who he adored. He also leaves his brother John and was preceded in death by brothers Peter, Joe, Tony, Fernando, Frank, Manuel and leaves many nieces and nephews.

Henry’s passions in life were hunting and fishing and he took great pride in creating and maintaining his property. Later in life, he enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his long time companion, Ann Troia.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by many who knew him.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Central Coast and the caregivers at Halo for their wonderful care and support.

The Service will be Tuesday, April 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the El Carmelo Cemetery, 100 Asilomar Blvd., Pacific Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Central Coast, Meals on Wheels, and the American Cancer Society.
