September 21, 1931 – April 6, 2024
Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cerchi, a long-time resident of Monterey, passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2024 at the age of 92. She was born in Herrin, IL and raised in St. Louis, MO, where she was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Re) Oldani and George H. Oldani. She moved to Monterey after marrying the love of her life, Joseph E. Cerchi, in 1955.
Although Joe passed in 2009, Jackie continued to share his legacy in the community with others. Both Jackie and Joe were avid volunteers and belonged to various clubs and organization in the community, especially those that celebrated their Italian heritage. Jackie was an active participant and volunteer throughout her life in organizations such as the Sons of Italy, Italian Catholic Federation, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Festa Italia, Italian Heritage Society, Westland House, and the Sally Griffin Senior Center.
Not only did Jackie and Joe devote their time to volunteer work, they did this while having jobs that supported the community as well. Jackie had a long career working in and managing various school cafeterias in the Monterey area, retiring as the Cafeteria Manager at Monterey High School. Joe retired as a Captain for the Monterey Fire Department. They were both devoted parishioners of San Carlos Church and loved to attend events as long-time members of the Moose Lodge.
Besides her parents and her beloved husband of nearly 55 years, Jackie is preceded in death by her sister, Josephine Griffanti (and her husband John); her niece, Joanna Parsons; and her grandson, Nicholas Ono.
Jackie is survived by her three children, Marie Della Maggiore of Monterey, CA, Joseph M. Cerchi (and his wife Tammy) of Bismark, MO, and Patricia Cerchi-Boesch (and her husband Mike), of Tustin, CA; her grandchildren, Kellye Hart (and her husband Michael), Kenneth Cerchi, Anthony Lucido, and Gabriel Lucido (and his wife Tanya); her beloved great-grandchildren, June Lucido, Madison Hart, and Margot Lucido; her nieces, Maria McBride and Angela Drees; and her nephew, John Griffanti (and his wife Erica); her sister-in-law, Betty Ann Russo (and her husband Anthony); many nieces and nephews from Joe’s side of the family, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews as well.
Jackie’s family would like to thank her many physicians and medical providers that were instrumental in her well-being and express their sincere appreciation for the care and support received from Key Home Health caregivers, Hospice of the Central Coast nurses and providers, and especially, the staff and caregivers of Del Monte Village Care Facility in Pacific Grove. We also thank her many friends and relatives that stepped up to help care for Jackie when needed, especially the last couple of years.
The family will have a small, private viewing and burial. Family, friends, and well wishers will be welcomed to join the family for a Celebration of Life that will be announced at a later date.
