

J. Michael Hogan of Carmel passed away on August 12 at the age of 68. Mike was born on April 15, 1947, in Joliet, Illinois. He grew up in Summit, New Jersey, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1969, and received his law degree in 1972 from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he met his wife Jo Marie (Ometer) Hogan.
After 42 years of practicing law, first in private practice and later with the County Counsel Office for the County of Monterey, Mike retired in 2013. Mike served as President of the Monterey County Bar Association, Captain of the Quail Men’s Club, President of the Monterey Peninsula Jaycees, member of the Monterey Rotary, and Board Director of the Monterey Peninsula United Way. An avid sports fan, Mike followed the Giants when they moved from New York to San Francisco and adored the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was a member of the Quail Lodge Golf and Country Club for 26 years.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Jo Hogan; his mother, Deane H. Hollenbach: his daughter, Katherine M. Hogan; his son, Bret D. (Kerrie E.) Hogan, and his grandson, Dillon L. Hogan. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Hogan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Carmel Mission Basilica at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17. Private entombment will take place.
