July 26, 1946 – April 24, 2019
On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, James Renwick (known as Jim to his friends), passed away suddenly while doing what he enjoyed: learning more about wine and making new friends.
Jim will be forever remembered by his loving wife and best friend, Wendy. He is also survived by his daughters Julie Renwick, LeAnne Laughlin, Tori Moore, their husbands Kevin Laughlin and Mike Moore, and four beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Harrison, Malia and Ella. His family and diverse group of friends will always remember Jim for his abundant energy, storytelling, and zest for life.
Jim was born on July 26, 1946 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. His family moved to California when he was ten, and he spent the rest of his youth in Watsonville. Jim lived most of his life in the Bay Area where he had a long career with Pacific Bell. Moving to Pebble Beach six years ago fulfilled his long held desire to live on the Monterey Peninsula and be close to the golf courses he loved.
His eyes sparkled when he spoke of his family, cooking, wine, and golf. He loved making holiday meals for family gatherings and was especially happy when he would arrive for an extended visit and the grandkids would put in their requests for their favorite meals made by Grandpa. He also took great pleasure in regularly cooking special meals for his wife.
Jim was a lifelong learner and was passionate about many topics, but wine was top of the list. He was a wine enthusiast and was often found sharing a bottle with friends old or new, as well as discussing the wine’s characteristics and the story of how he discovered it.
Jim always said that golf has a wonderful way of connecting people, and he forged many special friendships over the years through his love of the game. Whenever possible, he preferred to walk the course to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.
He pledged his time and leadership to various organizations, including serving eight years as President of his homeowners’ association in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico and on many committees at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. He will be dearly missed by so many in the local community and beyond.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, May 19th, at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, 2PM - 5PM. Condolences can be left at www.thepaulmortuary.com. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to the Morse Foundation Scholarship Fund, which provides educational scholarships to MPCC staff and their families. Checks can be mailed to Monterey Peninsula Country Club or donations can be made online at www.cfmco.org.
