Jean Shirey Smith

Jean Smith was born in Los Angeles, California. She married Bill Shirey in 1947 and moved to the Monterey Peninsula with their children in 1960. She was an active member of Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, where she also served as parish secretary.

Her marriage in 1969 to Cameron Smith took her to Ohio, and later to Washington State. She returned to Pacific Grove in 1989, and was a valued member of the volunteer staff at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for more than 20 years. Spending time with family and friends was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her four children: Kendra Rule of Pacific Grove; Ellen Shirey of Monterey, Dan Shirey of Carson City, Nevada; Dave Shirey of Kennewick, Washington; her brother Allan McMillan of Tacoma, Washington, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank the staff at The Del Monte for the wonderful care they gave Jean during the last six years.

A memorial service will be held on March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church in Pacific Grove.
