December 24, 1918 ~ August 9, 2013
Monterey ~ Jean E. Tormey, a native of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, passed away on August 9. Raised in Neenah, Wisconsin, she was a graduate of Science Hill Finishing School in Kentucky, Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and then went off to Washington D.C. during World War II. Jean lived with her husband of 67 years, John, in Pebble Beach for the past 29 years, coming from Brentwood, California via Waco, Texas and Los Angeles.
Jean loved gardening, reading mystery novels, and playing bridge for which she earned master points. She traveled the world many times over, enjoying long cruises and onshore adventures. She was able to transfer her loyalties from the Dodgers to the Giants after moving to Pebble Beach, but remained a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. Jean was a loving partner to her husband, and was happiest when in charge of running of the house, raising her children, and enjoying the blessings of being a grand and great grandparent. She was a longtime member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Pacific Grove.
Jean is loved and cherished by her husband of 67 years, John; her children, John Jr. of Portland, Oregon, Marybeth (Paul) Hutcheson of San Rafael, Michael (Jan) of Sherman Oaks and Daniel (Heather) of Santa Monica; her grandchildren, Ryan, Molly, Sara, Patrick, and Amber; her step-granddaughter, Brianna (Jason) and her step-great-grandsons, Kanan and Kaleb.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church in Pacific Grove on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 AM, followed by a gathering at Paul Mortuary. Please visit www.thepaulmortuary.com to sign Jean’s guest book and leave messages for her family.
